Tell us a bit about yourself (where you’re from, what you do, what you have studied in France, and where)!
My name is Ana and I am from the Netherlands. I studied mathematics and am currently working as a researcher in mathematics at Imperial College in London. France has always been one of my favourite countries and I love going there for holidays. I decided it would come in handy to actually be able to speak some French on my many visits. For that reason I went to Paris and to Nantes to take French classes at the university. It was great and my French improved a lot!
Why did you choose France?
France is one of my favourite countries; I like the atmosphere and the way of life there. I think the french language is my favorite language; it’s amazing!
How did your stay in France change who you are and impact your career?
At the time I learned to speak French quite well which was very useful.
Your favourite word in French?
I guess I would say the word ‘alors’.
We hope you enjoyed your French culture shock! Any memorable cultural fact, experience?
Definitely! I really enjoyed staying in France. I stayed in two places; the first time in Nantes and the second time in Paris. Both were great. In Paris I lived close to le Marais; which was a great district to be in with many nice restaurants and shops.
What is your favourite French meal?
I would say a pain au chocolat; a classic!
Have you brought back a French souvenir with you?
For sure! My grandparents collect magnets from every place the family visits. So I always buy here magnets wherever I go. For myself I am sure I bought some clothes since I think the French fashion is amazing.
Any French habit you have kept?
I guess having a pain au chocolat or a croissant almost on a daily basis.
