France: A Growing Hub for International Students

Students

In 2023-2024, 430,466 foreign students registered in French higher education, marking a 4.5% increase compared to last year.

This growth was driven by a resurgence in mobility from the Asia-Pacific region and strong increases in business school enrollments (+11%). Overall, 14% of students in France are international, with Morocco, Algeria, and China leading as the top countries of origin.

While universities continue to host most international students, business and engineering schools are gaining ground. Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia-Pacific regions showed significant growth, while student numbers from the Americas slightly declined.

Notably, the 2024 Shanghai Ranking highlights the excellence of French institutions, with 25 French universities in the global Top 1,000 and University of Paris Saclay ranking 12th worldwide.
