French universities shine in the Shanghai ranking 2024!
The 2024 edition of the prestigious Shanghai ranking confirmed the excellence of French universities on the international stage. With Paris-Saclay ranked 12th in the world, France has established itself as a leading nation in higher education and research. This historic result, the best ever achieved by a French university, underlines the quality and dynamism of French institutions.
Sylvie Retailleau, France's Minister for Higher Education and Research, expressed her pride in these remarkable achievements, drawing a parallel between those results and France Olympic medallists.

Paris-Saclay, now the leading university in continental Europe, is joined by other French institutions that are also moving up the rankings: PSL in 33rd place, Sorbonne Université in 41st, and Paris Cité in 60th.
President Emmanuel Macron described Paris-Saclay as "magical", highlighting the success of French university models and the impact of investments such as those in the Research Programming Law (LPR) and the France 2030 plan. These initiatives are strengthening the position of French universities and their international appeal.
University presidents such as Camille Galap of Paris-Saclay and Nathalie Drach-Temam of Sorbonne Université also expressed their satisfaction with these rankings, which reflect the hard work of the research teams and the excellence of the education provided.
In 2024, France stands out not only for the number of institutions in the world's top 100, but also for the growing recognition of its educational model. This improvement is largely due to the ability of French higher education institutions to adapt to the current context of higher education, through mergers of existing institutions or the creation of experimental public institutions (grouping together several institutions to create a larger, multi-disciplinary entity). These results confirm that French universities are world leaders in research and innovation, offering exceptional opportunities to students and researchers from all over the world.
