Inauguration of a Campus France branch in London

The Campus France Office in London was inaugurated on 10 May 2019. It is the first one to have been opened in the UK. In the context of Brexit, it will help maintain links between French and British institutions and promote the movement of students between France and the United Kingdom.

Official opening at the Residence of France

A new Campus France office has opened on May 10 in London. It is the first one to open in the UK. Its purpose will be to support students and institutions in their projects of mobility to France and to develop actions to:

  • Promote supervised mobility and exchanges under the Erasmus+ programme;
  • Promote courses in English: more than 1,500 programmes are currently taught in English in French institutions;
  • Reinforce scientific cooperation between the two countries.

The Campus France office is located in the Higher Education, Research and Innovation Service of the French Embassy: 6, Cromwell Place London SW7 2JN (+44 (0) 20 7073 1395; londres@campusfrance.org).

It is now part of the network of 256 Campus France Offices, in 126 countries, bringing together more than 500 people daily supporting students and institutions. It is a network that hasn't stopped developing for 20 years, within the network of French embassies abroad, to promote French higher education and to support foreign students and institutions in their mobility projects and programmes.

Student mobility between France and the UK

Student mobility grows out of the historical and cultural ties between the two countries. France, enjoying a reputation for excellence among international students, is a preferred destination for British students:

  • Number 4 host country for British students moving for degree studies (4,213 students);
  • Number 1 host destination for British students on an Erasmus+ exchange (3,900 students);

The UK, likewise, attracts a lot of French students:

  • Number 3 destination for French students moving for degree studies (12,076 students);
  • Number 2 country receiving Erasmus+ exchanges (7,770 students), who are the largest contingent of Erasmus+ exchange students in the UK.

In addition to student cooperation (exchanges between institutions, dual degrees, Entente Cordiale scholarships programme, etc.), the scientific cooperation between the two countries is particularly active (cooperations between institutions and laboratories, co-publications with CNRS, INSERM or the CEA, Hubert Curien Alliance Partnership, etc.)

Create a new dynamic between the two countries

In order to encourage mobility among British students, a campaign led by Universities UK (UUK) the association of UK universities, titled Go International, Stand Out, was launched in 2018. The aim is to double the number of UK undergrad students going abroad.

France wants to increase the attractiveness of its higher education institutions to the United Kingdom, and to maintain and develop its academic cooperation in the new Brexit context and in line with the new French attractiveness strategy "Bienvenue en France".
